President Bola Tinubu has appointed Yakubu Jang, son of former Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang, as Senior Special Assistant in the Office of the President. The appointment was announced on Saturday by Vice President Kashim Shettima while representing the President at the 80th birthday celebration and book launch of the elder Jang in Jos, Plateau State.

Making the announcement during his goodwill message, Shettima said the appointment reflected President Tinubu's recognition of competence, loyalty and the need to accommodate diverse voices in governance. The announcement drew applause from guests at the event, which was attended by former President Goodluck Jonathan, serving and former governors, federal and state government officials, traditional rulers and other dignitaries.

Yakubu Jang's appointment came as political leaders gathered to celebrate the former Plateau governor's contributions to national development. Jonah Jang, who turned 80, was honoured for his decades of public service, including his career in the Nigerian Air Force, his tenure as Military Administrator, two-term Governor of Plateau State and later as a senator.

The celebration also featured the unveiling of the elder statesman's autobiography, Airman to Politics: My Life, which chronicles his journey from military service to public office. Vice President Shettima conveyed President Tinubu's congratulations and commended Jang for his contributions to nation-building throughout his distinguished career.

The appointment adds Yakubu Jang to the growing list of presidential aides serving in the Tinubu administration. While the Presidency has not yet outlined his specific responsibilities, the announcement signals the administration's continued effort to strengthen its team with appointments drawn from different parts of the country.
