Syria Bus Crash Death Toll Rises to 35

At least 35 people have been killed and around 30 others injured after two passenger buses collided on the Deir al-Zor–Damascus highway in eastern Syria, according to the country's Health Ministry. The fatal crash involved a civilian passenger bus and another bus transporting members of the Internal Security Forces, making it one of Syria's deadliest road accidents in recent years.

Syrian state media reported that emergency teams, including military helicopters, were deployed to the scene to evacuate the injured and recover victims. Many of those hurt were taken to nearby hospitals, while rescue operations continued for several hours after the collision. Authorities warned that the casualty figures could change as investigations and medical assessments continue.

The cause of the collision has not yet been established, and officials have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash. Preliminary reports indicate the accident occurred on the busy highway linking Damascus with the eastern province of Deir al-Zor, a major transport route frequently used by civilian and security vehicles.

The tragedy has renewed concerns over road safety in Syria, where damaged infrastructure, heavy traffic and poor road conditions continue to contribute to serious accidents. Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution while the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
