Suspect Says Ex-OGTV Broadcaster Was Killed ‘to Teach Her a Lesson’
Ogun State Police have arrested three suspects over the killing of former OGTV broadcaster Olakitan Oyesiku and her security guard. The principal suspect allegedly confessed that the attack was planned to "teach her a lesson", while police continue investigations ahead of prosecution.
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of former Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Olakitan "Kitan" Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo. Investigators say the principal suspect confessed that the attack was intended to "teach her a lesson" over grievances stemming from his previous employment with the deceased.
Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni said the prime suspect, a 22-year-old former security guard employed by Oyesiku, admitted to planning the attack and recruiting two accomplices. According to the police, the suspect claimed he acted out of resentment over his treatment while working for the late broadcaster.
Police said the victims were found dead at Oyesiku's residence after officers responded to reports of suspicious activity. Investigators discovered signs of forced entry, while the deceased's Lexus SUV had been taken from the property. The vehicle was later recovered through intelligence-led operations, despite efforts by the suspects to conceal its identity by removing its number plates and ignition key.
The command added that forensic analysis, intelligence gathering and technical tracking were instrumental in identifying and arresting the suspects. A handwritten note allegedly left at the scene also formed part of the evidence gathered during the investigation.
Police emphasised that although the suspects have made useful statements, they remain entitled to due process. The command said investigations are continuing to strengthen the case before prosecution, while assuring the public that everyone connected to the crime will be brought to justice.
The double murder has sparked widespread concern across Ogun State, with residents and colleagues of the late broadcaster calling for a thorough investigation and swift prosecution of those responsible.
