Survivor Recounts Terrifying Escape From Enugu Air Runway Incident

A passenger aboard the Enugu Air aircraft involved in Thursday's runway excursion at Benin Airport has shared a harrowing account of the incident, describing how the experience changed his perspective on life. Rapper and content creator Chinedu, popularly known as Triple Pin, said he never imagined he would witness such an incident after only seeing plane crashes in movies and on social media.

According to the survivor, heavy rainfall severely reduced visibility during the flight, leaving him concerned about how the aircraft would land. He said the plane circled several times while attempting to land before it suddenly veered off the runway, throwing passengers into panic. Despite the frightening moments, he expressed gratitude that the aircraft did not catch fire and that everyone on board survived without injuries.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has since launched an investigation into the incident involving the Enugu Air Embraer E170, which was operating Flight 4264 from Lagos to Benin. The bureau confirmed that the aircraft overran the end of Runway 05 while landing with 63 passengers and five crew members on board. All occupants were safely evacuated, with no injuries reported.

NSIB Director-General Capt. Alex Badeh Jr. described the safe evacuation as reassuring but stressed that every runway excursion is treated as a serious aviation occurrence requiring a thorough investigation. Enugu Air also confirmed the incident, saying flight schedules may be adjusted temporarily while investigators determine the cause of the runway excursion.
