Sunday Igboho Recounts Escape from DSS Raid on Ibadan Residence

Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has recounted how he escaped from operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) during the controversial raid on his Ibadan residence in July 2021. Speaking in a recent interview, he claimed the operation was intended to eliminate him rather than arrest him, describing the incident as one of the most traumatic experiences of his life.

According to Igboho, he managed to flee the house after finding an escape route while the security operatives were carrying out the raid. He alleged that the officers surrounded the property and opened fire, forcing him to act quickly to save his life. The activist maintained that he had no prior knowledge that the operation was about to take place.

The July 2021 operation resulted in the deaths of two of Igboho's associates, while several others were arrested by the DSS. Security operatives also recovered firearms and ammunition from the residence, allegations that Igboho and his legal team have consistently challenged. Following the raid, the DSS declared him wanted before he was later arrested in the Benin Republic while attempting to travel abroad.

Reflecting on the incident, Igboho said the experience strengthened his resolve to continue advocating for the Yoruba Nation cause despite the challenges he has faced. He also expressed gratitude for surviving the raid, insisting that he remains committed to pursuing his campaign through lawful means.

The 2021 raid remains one of the most controversial security operations in recent years, with differing accounts from the DSS and Igboho continuing to fuel public debate over the circumstances surrounding the incident.
