The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa'ad Abubakar III, has dismissed reports linking him to President Bola Tinubu's 2027 re-election campaign, stating that he has not endorsed, will not endorse any presidential candidate ahead of the next general election.

Speaking through a statement issued by the Jama'atu Nasril Islam (JNI), the Sultan said claims suggesting he had declared support for Tinubu's second-term bid were false, misleading. He urged the public to disregard the reports, insisting that his office remains non-partisan, committed to promoting peace, national unity.

The revered traditional ruler maintained that his primary concern is the conduct of credible, peaceful elections in 2027 rather than backing any political party or candidate. He stressed that Nigerians should be allowed to freely choose their leaders through a transparent electoral process devoid of intimidation or manipulation.

The Sultan also called on political actors to place national interest above personal ambition, urging them to avoid actions capable of heating up the polity as preparations for the next election gather momentum. He appealed to citizens to remain law-abiding, participate peacefully in the democratic process.

He reaffirmed his commitment to working with all stakeholders to promote peace, religious harmony, democratic values, emphasising that his office would continue to support initiatives that strengthen national cohesion rather than partisan politics.
