Spain Make History as First Nation to Hold Men’s, Women’s World Cup Titles Simultaneously

Spain have become the first nation in football history to simultaneously hold the FIFA Men’s World Cup and FIFA Women’s World Cup titles following their triumph at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The historic achievement was confirmed by FIFA on Sunday after Spain defeated defending champions Argentina 1-0 in the World Cup final at the New York New Jersey Stadium.

Celebrating the milestone, FIFA announced the feat on its official X account.

“History-makers Spain have become the first nation to hold both the @FIFAWorldCup and @FIFAWWC simultaneously!” the world football governing body posted.

Spain secured the men’s World Cup title three years after their women’s national team won the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time by defeating England 1-0 in the 2023 final in Sydney, Australia.

Defender Olga Carmona scored the decisive goal that delivered Spain’s maiden women’s world title and established the country as a major force in women’s football.

Sunday’s victory over Argentina also handed Spain their second FIFA Men’s World Cup title, having previously lifted the trophy in South Africa in 2010.
