Sowore Leads Abuja Protest Against Alleged Land Grabbing At Jabi Lake
Omoyele Sowore has led hundreds of protesters in Abuja under the “Save Jabi Lake” campaign, demanding an end to alleged illegal land grabbing around Jabi Lake and calling for greater transparency in the management and protection of public spaces in the FCT.
Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has led hundreds of protesters in Abuja under the “Save Jabi Lake” campaign, calling for an end to what they described as the illegal takeover of public land.
The demonstration, held in the Federal Capital Territory, focused on allegations of land grabbing involving areas around Jabi Lake and Jabi Park. Protesters accused authorities of converting or reallocating public spaces to private interests, a move they say threatens environmental preservation and public access to communal facilities.
Carrying placards and chanting solidarity messages, the demonstrators demanded greater transparency in land allocation processes within Abuja and urged the government to protect designated recreational and ecological areas from encroachment.
Sowore, who has been active in several civic protests in recent years, has consistently positioned himself as an advocate for environmental protection and accountability in public resource management.
The protest reflects ongoing public debate over urban development and land use within the FCT, with residents and activists divided over government redevelopment policies and the protection of green spaces.
Authorities have yet to issue a detailed response regarding the specific allegations raised during the demonstration.
