Reps Declare Self-Proclaimed PFIPC DG's Appointment Letter Fake

The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating the alleged operations of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has declared the appointment letter presented by the council's self-proclaimed Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, to be fake. The committee said the document was found to be forged following testimonies from key government agencies during its ongoing investigation.

Speaking during the investigative hearing in Abuja, the committee's Chairman, Yusuf Gagdi, disclosed that the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, confirmed that the appointment letter and other documents submitted by Adeyemi were not authentic. He said investigations established that the alleged letter of appointment and the Act purportedly creating the agency had both been forged.

The hearing was attended by representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, including Deputy Commissioner of Police Olufemi Akinola and Assistant Commissioner of Police Bashir Abdullahi, while Adeyemi failed to appear before the committee. Lawmakers had earlier directed the Inspector-General of Police to produce him within 48 hours to answer questions over the establishment and operations of the disputed agency.

The committee maintained that Adeyemi's appearance remains necessary to explain how the purported council allegedly obtained official recognition and processed government correspondence. It also reaffirmed its commitment to concluding a thorough investigation into the matter and ensuring accountability where necessary.

The probe forms part of a wider investigation into allegations that the PFIPC operated without legal backing while allegedly presenting forged government documents to secure official recognition and carry out its activities.
