Police Unveil Special Squad in Lagos to Tackle Insecurity
The Lagos State Police Command has launched a new tactical unit to intensify security operations in Ikorodu and nearby communities amid rising concerns over criminal activity and public safety threats in the area.
The Nigeria Police Force has unveiled a special tactical security outfit known as the “Command Sweepers Squad” to address rising insecurity in Ikorodu and surrounding communities in Lagos State.
The initiative was introduced under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, following growing public concern over criminal incidents and security breaches in parts of the Ikorodu axis.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the squad is a temporary intervention force established to restore public confidence and strengthen security operations in affected areas.
The unit is made up of personnel drawn from multiple tactical formations, including the Rapid Response Squad, Eko Strike Force, Police Mobile Force, as well as personnel from sister security agencies and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force.
The squad has been strategically stationed in Ijede to enable rapid deployment and coordinated response across Ikorodu and adjoining communities.
To enhance its operational capacity, the command equipped the unit with patrol vehicles and three Armoured Personnel Carriers donated by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.
Authorities said the squad will focus on identifying criminal hideouts and black spots, carrying out intelligence-led raids, stop-and-search operations, and confidence-building patrols aimed at flushing out criminal elements.
“The Squad has been strategically deployed to identify black spots and criminal hideouts to carry out intelligence-led operations, raids, stop-and-search duties, and confidence-building patrols aimed at flushing out criminal elements,” the statement said.
The police assured residents that all operations would be conducted professionally and in line with the rule of law, urging members of the public to cooperate by providing timely and credible intelligence to support security efforts.
The Command added that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen security architecture and ensure lasting peace across Lagos State.
