Police Probe AIG Moshood Jimoh Over VeryDarkMan’s Corruption Allegations

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that it has commenced an internal investigation into the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, AIG Moshood Jimoh, following corruption allegations made by social media personality Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan.

The Force disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu.

According to the statement, AIG Jimoh has been invited for questioning as part of an administrative review, while the criminal case connected to the allegations remains before a court of competent jurisdiction.

The police also confirmed that VeryDarkMan has been invited to appear before the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja to provide evidence in support of the claims he has made publicly.

“The criminal matter referenced in public commentary was investigated and is now before a court of competent jurisdiction, following the advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions,” the statement said.

The Force stressed that it would not litigate the case through the media or allow public campaigns to influence judicial proceedings.

It revealed that the Force Criminal Investigation Department issued a formal invitation to Otse on July 30, 2026, requesting his appearance in Abuja.

According to the police, the investigation demonstrates its commitment to examining credible allegations against officers irrespective of rank or public attention.

For several weeks, VeryDarkMan has released a series of videos accusing AIG Jimoh of corruption and alleging that officers under his supervision, while serving as Commissioner of Police in Lagos, framed businessman Ahmed Tajudeen Akanbi in connection with two murder cases.

He claimed suspects initially confessed to one of the killings without mentioning Akanbi but later implicated him after allegedly being subjected to pressure and torture.

The activist repeatedly challenged the police to release the original statements made by the suspects, maintaining that he was prepared to face legal consequences if his claims proved false.

While reaffirming Nigerians’ constitutional right to freedom of expression and to demand accountability, the police cautioned against spreading unverified allegations.

The Force added that any officer found culpable after due investigation would be sanctioned in accordance with the law, while individuals making false allegations intended to damage the reputation of officers or the institution could also face legal action.

The police urged VeryDarkMan to honour the invitation and allow both the administrative investigation and judicial process to proceed without interference.
