Police Neutralise Two Suspected Kidnappers, Arrest Kingpin in Ogun
Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have neutralised two suspected kidnappers and arrested an alleged kidnapping kingpin alongside another gang member during an intelligence-led operation along the Ijebu-Ode/Ibadan Road axis of the state.
The police also recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 10 rounds of 5.6 mm ammunition, a single-barrel gun, ₦1.5 million suspected to be ransom proceeds, several mobile phones, and a black bag during the operation.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the operation was carried out following sustained investigations into the abduction of three persons at Ipojo Area, Iperin, Atan-Ijebu, earlier in the week. The victims were reportedly released unharmed after ransom was paid.
He explained that after the release of the victims, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit intensified surveillance and tracking efforts to apprehend members of the gang responsible for the kidnapping.
On May 15, 2026, at about 5:00 a.m., police operatives acting on credible intelligence stormed the suspects’ hideout along the Ijebu-Ode/Ibadan corridor.
According to him, the suspects opened fire on sighting the police team, triggering a gun duel. The officers responded professionally, resulting in the neutralisation of two suspects, while others fled into the forest with varying degrees of bullet injuries.
Babaseyi added that further intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of the suspected gang leader, identified as Seriki Mohammed Abdullahi, alongside another suspect, Mohammed Bello.
He noted that additional exhibits linked to the criminal network were recovered from the scene, while efforts are ongoing to track down fleeing members of the syndicate.
The police command confirmed that the bodies of the deceased suspects have been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy, while investigations continue to uncover the full structure of the gang and ensure prosecution.
Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their professionalism and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intensifying the fight against kidnapping and violent crimes across the state.
The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies for prompt action.
