Police Confirm 13 Killed in Benue Attack, Launch Clearance Operation

The Benue State Police Command has confirmed that 13 people were killed after suspected bandits attacked the Efeyi community in Ugboju, Otukpo Local Government Area. The assailants also reportedly rustled 20 cattle before fleeing, prompting security agencies to launch a large-scale clearance operation to restore order and track down those responsible.

According to the police, tactical teams were immediately deployed to the affected community following the attack. The ongoing operation involves combing nearby forests and surrounding areas to flush out the attackers, recover the stolen livestock and prevent further assaults on neighbouring communities.

The command said security personnel have intensified patrols across the area to reassure residents and strengthen security. It also urged members of the public to remain calm while providing credible information that could assist ongoing investigations and operations aimed at apprehending the suspects.

Police authorities reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that efforts would continue until the perpetrators are arrested and brought to justice. They also appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies and avoid spreading unverified information that could hinder ongoing operations.

The latest attack adds to growing security concerns in parts of Benue State, where communities have continued to experience violent attacks in recent months, prompting renewed calls for stronger security measures and sustained intervention by relevant authorities.
