Police Arrest Three Robbery Suspects in Anambra, Recover Arms
The Anambra Police Command has arrested three suspects linked to armed robbery, drug-related offences and cult activities, recovering a locally made pistol, ammunition, phones and other items.
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested three suspects over alleged involvement in armed robbery, drug peddling and cult-related activities, recovering arms and other items during separate operations across the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement released on Saturday, saying the arrests were carried out by operatives of the command’s Special Unit during patrol and intelligence-led operations.
Ikenga said two of the suspects, identified as Williams Ndifon and David Missang, both aged 27, were arrested while riding a motorcycle along the Igbariam/Achalla Road in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to the police spokesperson, the suspects were intercepted by operatives of the command’s unit during a patrol on June 19, 2026.
A search conducted on them led to the recovery of several items, including a locally made Beretta pistol, one live ammunition, a Daylong motorcycle, six mobile phones, two power banks, a sledgehammer and a chisel suspected to be used as a metal-cracking tool.
The police also recovered quantities of substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa and a black polo shirt bearing the inscription “Nigeria Army Barracks Youths Foundation.”
Ikenga said the recovered items and the circumstances surrounding the suspects’ activities suggested links to criminal operations, adding that investigations were ongoing to establish the extent of their involvement.
In a related development, the police spokesperson said operatives acting on credible intelligence arrested another suspect, Oluchukwu Onyekwe, a 21-year-old male, at Agukwu Nri in Anaocha Local Government Area of the state.
He stated that the suspect was found in possession of quantities of dried weeds suspected to be Cannabis Sativa.
Preliminary investigations, according to the command, also linked Onyekwe to cult-related activities within the area. He remains in police custody as further investigations continue.
The Anambra State Police Command urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remained important in preventing crime and improving security across the state.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling criminal activities and ensuring the safety of residents through patrols, intelligence gathering and targeted operations.
