Police Arrest 50-Year-Old Man for Allegedly Defiling Two Minors in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man identified simply as Godwin for allegedly sexually assaulting two underage girls in Ogale, Eleme Local Government Area of the state. The suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Eleme Police Division following a formal complaint lodged by the parents of the victims, aged 13 and 11.

According to the father of one of the girls, the suspect allegedly lured the children by sending them on errands before inviting them into his room after they returned. He claimed the suspect would lock the door, increase the volume of his music and then sexually assault the girls, allegedly threatening them with severe consequences if they disclosed the incidents to anyone.

The matter reportedly came to light after the victims eventually confided in their parents, who immediately reported the case to the police. Acting on the complaint, officers arrested the suspect at his residence, where he is currently being held while investigations continue.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said the suspect remains in police custody and that a full investigation is underway. She assured the public that the command is committed to ensuring justice is served and reaffirmed its determination to protect children and other vulnerable members of society from abuse.

The incident has renewed concerns over the protection of children from sexual abuse, with authorities urging parents, guardians and community members to remain vigilant and promptly report suspected cases to law enforcement agencies.
