PFN Declares Three-Day Nationwide Fast Over Insecurity, 2027 Elections
The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria has announced a three-day nationwide fasting and prayer programme over worsening insecurity, rising bloodshed, economic hardship and growing concerns about Nigeria’s political future ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Christian body said the programme, scheduled for May 22 to May 24, 2026, is aimed at seeking divine intervention for peace, national healing, stability, economic recovery and credible elections amid increasing violence and uncertainty across the country.
According to a statement issued by PFN National Publicity Secretary, Sylvanus Ukafia, the decision was reached after a meeting of the Fellowship’s National Executive Council.
The statement noted that the resolution followed extensive prayerful deliberations on the state of the nation and the responsibility of the Church during a critical period in Nigeria’s history.
“This is a defining moment for the Church to rise in unity and intercession for the nation,” the Fellowship said.
The PFN expressed deep concern over persistent insecurity, repeated attacks on communities and places of worship, as well as the worsening economic hardship affecting millions of Nigerians.
It warned that the current situation demands urgent spiritual and moral intervention, adding that national unity and peace must be prioritised ahead of political activities leading to the 2027 elections.
“We believe that as the Church unites in prayer, God will intervene in the affairs of our nation and grant Nigeria peace, healing, stability, and a new season of hope,” the statement added.
The Fellowship also urged its members across the country to actively participate in the fasting programme and use the period to pray for leaders at all levels of government, security agencies, and citizens affected by violence and hardship.
It emphasised that the Church has a critical role to play in promoting peace, reconciliation and moral renewal in the country, especially at a time of heightened political tension and economic pressure.
The PFN further called for sustained prayers for Nigeria’s unity, democratic stability and recovery from ongoing socio-economic challenges.
