PFIPC Probe: ICPC Concludes Investigation into Alleged Fake Agency Scandal

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has concluded its investigation into the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), with its report now being finalised for submission to President Bola Tinubu before the expiration of the 30-day deadline.

Sources within the anti-graft agency disclosed that the investigation was nearing completion after operatives questioned the council's purported Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, who remains in police custody. Tinubu had, on July 7, 2026, directed the ICPC to investigate the circumstances surrounding the establishment and operation of the controversial agency and submit its findings within 30 days.

According to the sources, Adeyemi was interrogated on Thursday at the headquarters of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) in Guzape, Abuja, after an earlier session scheduled for Wednesday was postponed because his lawyer was unavailable. Investigators reportedly questioned several other individuals connected with the case before concluding the exercise.

Meanwhile, Adeyemi has appealed to the House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating the PFIPC to allow him to testify before it submits its final report. Through his legal team led by Festus Akhigbe, he argued that he was being unfairly portrayed as the sole culprit and insisted that any report produced without hearing his side of the story would violate his constitutional right to fair hearing.

The legal team also argued that it would have been impossible for one individual to establish and operate what appeared to be a federal agency without the involvement or knowledge of relevant government institutions. The House committee is expected to brief Nigerians on its findings before presenting its final report for legislative consideration.
