Peter Obi: I May Not Be Alive to Seek Presidency in 2027
Peter Obi says he may not be alive to contest the 2027 election, alleging persistent intimidation, political persecution and deliberate obstruction of his activities.
Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Peter Obi, has expressed fears that he may not live long enough to participate in the next presidential poll, alleging that he has become a target of sustained political intimidation and harassment.
Obi made the remarks during an interview on With Chude, hosted by media personality Chude Jideonwo and shared on X on Wednesday.
Responding to a question on whether he could be prevented from contesting the 2027 presidential election, the former Anambra State governor said his concern extended beyond being denied the opportunity to run for office.
According to him, there is a possibility that he may not even be alive before the election, claiming that his activities are being deliberately frustrated by the current administration.
Obi, however, stopped short of making a direct accusation against any individual or institution, insisting that the pattern of events around him points to continuous attempts to obstruct his engagements.
He said situations that ordinarily should be routine have become unnecessarily difficult, adding that the alleged interference occurs in subtle ways rather than through open confrontation.
The former governor further claimed that the pressure is not limited to him alone but affects other members of the opposition, whom he said are also facing various forms of intimidation.
He alleged that he has repeatedly been denied privileges and courtesies he believes he is entitled to, citing an incident at an airport where officials reportedly locked his vehicle while other vehicles parked in the same location were left untouched.
Obi also claimed that some acquaintances now avoid greeting him in public because they fear being associated with him, while others have discouraged him from attending family ceremonies to avoid attracting unwanted attention.
According to him, such experiences reflect what he described as a growing atmosphere of fear among people perceived to be close to opposition figures.
Despite the allegations, Obi did not provide documentary or other evidence to substantiate his claims during the interview.
As of the time of filing this report, the Federal Government had not issued any official response to the allegations raised by the former presidential candidate.
The interview has generated public discussion, with supporters and political observers reacting to Obi’s claims as attention gradually shifts toward preparations for the 2027 general elections.
