Oyo Panel Invites Public Memoranda on Oriire School Abduction Investigation

The Oyo State Judicial Commission of Inquiry investigating the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Esinele and Yawota communities of Oriire Local Government Area has called on members of the public to submit memoranda to assist its ongoing investigation.

The commission, inaugurated by Governor Seyi Makinde on July 31, said it is seeking facts, evidence and other relevant materials that will help establish the circumstances surrounding the abduction.

According to the panel, submissions are expected to provide information on the security situation before, during and after the incident, the response of relevant authorities, as well as recommendations that could help prevent similar attacks in the future.

In a public notice signed by the commission’s secretary, Olamide Tella, individuals, community groups, civil society organisations and other stakeholders were encouraged to participate in the inquiry by providing detailed memoranda.

The commission advised contributors to include their names, contact details and any supporting documents or evidence that may assist the investigation.

It explained that memoranda could be submitted physically at the Conference Room, Office of the Head of Service, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, or electronically through the channels provided by the commission.

The deadline for the submission of memoranda has been fixed for August 14, 2026.

According to the commission, the inquiry was established to determine the facts surrounding the abduction of the pupils and teachers, examine the actions taken by relevant authorities before and after the incident, and identify any gaps in security and emergency response.

The panel is also expected to recommend practical measures aimed at strengthening security around schools and preventing a recurrence of similar incidents across Oyo State.

The commission noted that contributions from members of the public would provide valuable perspectives that could support its findings and recommendations.

It urged residents, affected communities and other stakeholders with relevant information to cooperate with the inquiry by making truthful and comprehensive submissions within the stipulated period.

The judicial commission forms part of the Oyo State Government’s efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the Oriire school abduction and improve the protection of schools, pupils and teachers against future security threats across the state.
