Osun Disburses Fresh Palliatives to Civil Servants

The Osun State Government has commenced another round of palliative payments to civil servants as part of efforts to cushion the effects of the prevailing economic challenges and improve workers' welfare.

The development was announced on Wednesday by the spokesperson to Governor Ademola Adeleke, Olawale Rasheed, who said the intervention reflects the administration's continued commitment to supporting public servants. He noted that the payments are intended to complement workers' salaries amid the current economic realities.

Rasheed stated that the Adeleke administration began periodic palliative payments before implementing the new national minimum wage, adding that Osun was among the first states to introduce such support for its workforce. He described the initiative as part of the government's broader strategy to prioritise the welfare of civil servants.

The government also contrasted its record with that of the previous administration, alleging that workers were previously denied their salaries and other entitlements. It maintained that the current administration remains committed to ensuring civil servants receive their rightful compensation and are treated with dignity.

According to the government, the continued payment of palliatives is aimed at restoring confidence in the public service, boosting staff morale, attracting skilled personnel and improving service delivery across the state. It reaffirmed its resolve to sustain policies that promote the welfare of workers despite prevailing economic pressures.
