OOUTH Resident Doctors Suspend Warning Strike
Resident doctors at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital have suspended their warning strike after discussions with authorities. The decision is intended to allow time for the resolution of welfare and workplace concerns raised by the doctors.
Resident doctors at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, have suspended their warning strike following interventions aimed at addressing the issues that led to the industrial action.
The doctors, under the auspices of their association, announced the decision after engaging with relevant authorities and stakeholders over concerns relating to welfare, working conditions, and other outstanding demands.
According to the association, the suspension was reached in good faith to allow ongoing discussions and give the hospital management and government an opportunity to fulfil commitments made during negotiations. The doctors expressed optimism that the concerns raised would be resolved within the agreed timeframe.
The warning strike had affected some medical services at the teaching hospital, prompting calls from patients and healthcare stakeholders for a speedy resolution of the dispute.
Hospital management welcomed the suspension of the industrial action, describing it as a positive step towards restoring normal operations and ensuring uninterrupted healthcare services for patients.
The resident doctors, however, warned that they would continue to monitor developments and could reconsider their position if agreements reached during negotiations are not implemented.
The development is expected to bring relief to patients who rely on the hospital for medical care, while discussions between the parties continue.
