Ogun Approves 450 Housing Units, Legislators' Quarters, Major Road Projects

The Ogun State Executive Council has approved the construction of 450 two-bedroom semi-detached housing units, new official quarters for members of the State House of Assembly, the reconstruction of the Ogun State Governor's Lodge in Abuja, major road rehabilitation projects and the upgrading of traditional stools. The approvals form part of Governor Dapo Abiodun's drive to deepen infrastructure development, strengthen governance institutions and preserve the state's cultural heritage.

According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, the housing projects include 450 bungalows with supporting infrastructure, 28 official quarters for lawmakers and 28 duplexes for sale at the Ibara Government Reservation Area (GRA) Scheme II in Abeokuta. He said the projects are designed to expand access to affordable housing while stimulating economic activities in the construction sector.

The council also approved the reconstruction of several strategic roads across Ogun's three senatorial districts to improve connectivity and economic activities. The projects include the Okun-Owa–Ijebu-Ode Road, the Ago-Iwoye–Ijebu-Igbo–Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic Road, Phase One of the Odeda–Olugbo Road, the Ayobo (Mopol Junction)–Lafenwa Junction Road in Ota and Agbala Road in Iperu.

In addition, the Executive Council approved the reconstruction of the Ogun State Governor's Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, describing it as part of efforts to preserve government assets and provide a more conducive environment for governance. The council also approved the upgrading and recognition of several traditional stools under the Ijebu, Egba and Yewa Traditional Councils to strengthen traditional institutions across the state.

Akinmade said the approvals underscore the Abiodun administration's commitment to urban regeneration, institutional reforms and sustainable development. He added that replacing ageing public infrastructure with modern facilities would improve governance, boost investment, expand housing opportunities and enhance the quality of life for residents across Ogun State.
