Ogun APC Rebuts Iyabo Obasanjo’s Claims of Unfair Treatment After Resignation
The Ogun State APC has dismissed allegations of disrespect and unfair treatment made by former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, stating that her brief stay in the party was treated with fairness and transparency.
The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations of unfair treatment levelled against it by former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, stating that she was accorded full respect and a level playing field during her brief stint in the party.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has officially reacted to the resignation of Professor Iyabo Obasanjo, debunking her claims of disrespect, marginalisation, and intimidation of her supporters.
Senator Obasanjo, the daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, recently tendered her resignation letter dated May 31, 2026. She cited unfair treatment and a flawed consensus arrangement that produced Senator Solomon Adeola (popularly known as Yayi) as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 elections.
Reacting to her departure, the Ogun State APC Publicity Secretary, Comrade Femi Nuberu, described her allegations as inconsistent with the realities of her experience within the ruling party.
Nuberu clarified that the party welcomed the former lawmaker into its fold from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) just a few weeks before the governorship primary election. Despite her late entry, he noted that she was afforded the same rights, privileges, and opportunities as every other aspirant.
According to the party spokesman, the consensus exercise that produced Senator Adeola was transparent, inclusive, and completely free from discrimination or intimidation. He pointed out that Senator Obasanjo herself had publicly acknowledged the consensus arrangement and pledged to support it in the interest of party unity and power rotation to a section of the state that had not previously produced a governor.
While stating that the APC respects her constitutional right to freedom of association and her decision to make personal political choices, Nuberu noted that her sudden exit raises questions about her initial motives for joining the party.
The APC argued that her decision to dump the platform barely weeks after joining reinforces the perception that her membership was tied strictly to her pursuit of the governorship ticket, rather than a genuine commitment to the party's growth.
Despite her grievances, Obasanjo had expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu, the Ogun State APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, and other party leaders for the courtesies extended to her before her exit.
The APC concluded by wishing her well in her future political endeavours as the party continues to strategise and unify its ranks ahead of the 2027 general elections.
