Obi Faces Backlash as Soludo Aide Accuses Him of ‘Futile Ambition’ Over Nnamdi Kanu Remarks
Obi Under Fire Over Comment on Nnamdi Kanu as Soludo Aide Accuses Him of ‘Futile Ambition’
Former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has come under criticism following his recent remarks on the continued detention of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
The backlash was led by the Special Adviser on Media to Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Ejimofor Opara, who accused Obi of making “careless and self-serving” comments regarding Kanu’s incarceration.
Opara, in a strongly worded statement, alleged that Obi’s position on the matter amounted to undermining judicial processes and using sensitive national issues for political advantage ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He further described Obi’s political moves as driven by “futile ambition,” arguing that his statements risked deepening tensions around an already sensitive national issue.
According to the aide, the courts have handled Kanu’s case through established legal procedures, and political leaders should be cautious about public comments that could be interpreted as interference or incitement.
The criticism adds to ongoing political exchanges surrounding Nnamdi Kanu’s detention, which continues to generate debate among political figures, legal analysts, and regional stakeholders.
As of the time of filing this report, Obi has not issued a formal response to the latest allegations.
Observers say the controversy reflects the increasingly heated political atmosphere ahead of the 2027 elections, where key national issues are becoming central to political messaging and party rivalry.
