NYSC Makes NERD Clearance Mandatory for Corps Members’ Mobilisation

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that prospective corps members must obtain clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD) before they can be mobilised for national service.

The directive was issued as the scheme intensifies preparations for the mobilisation of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ prospective corps members and strengthens measures aimed at improving the integrity of its mobilisation process.

In a public notice shared on its official X account on Monday, the NYSC stressed that NERD clearance has become a compulsory requirement for all eligible graduates seeking mobilisation.

The scheme urged prospective corps members to complete the verification process early to avoid delays that could affect their participation in the upcoming orientation exercise.

“This is to inform PCMs (Prospective Corps Members) that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation,” the notice stated.

Reinforcing the directive, the NYSC added, “NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC!!!”

Although the scheme did not provide further details on the registration and clearance procedure, the latest requirement signals a stricter verification process designed to ensure accurate records before mobilisation.

The announcement comes shortly after the NYSC confirmed the mobilisation of another batch of prospective corps members for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ service year and advised tertiary institutions as well as eligible graduates to complete all required documentation before the orientation exercise begins.

The development also follows a recent safety advisory issued by the scheme regarding travel to orientation camps.

In the advisory, the NYSC warned prospective corps members against travelling at night due to prevailing security concerns on major highways across the country.

Instead, participants were advised to break long journeys where necessary and lodge in safe locations or approved military and security formations rather than continue travelling after dark.

The NYSC explained that the renewed measures are part of broader efforts to safeguard corps members while ensuring that only properly verified graduates are mobilised for national service.

As mobilisation activities continue, prospective corps members are expected to complete all mandatory registration and verification procedures, including obtaining NERD clearance, before reporting to their designated orientation camps.
