NSCDC Rescues Teenage Girl from Kidnappers, Arrests Suspects in Edo

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has rescued a 15-year-old girl who was allegedly abducted in Ewohimi, Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo State, and arrested two suspects in connection with the incident.

The Edo State Commandant of the corps, Mr. Saidi Akintayo, disclosed this during a news conference held on Saturday in Benin City.

According to Akintayo, the victim, identified as Glory Odigie, was rescued through an intelligence-driven operation conducted by operatives of the command following a report by her family.

He explained that on June 19, the command received a complaint from Odion Odigie, who reported that his younger sister had left home on June 18 to purchase a phone charging cord but failed to return.

The commandant said the family later received telephone calls from unidentified individuals claiming responsibility for the teenager’s abduction and demanding a ransom of N800,000 for her release.

“The callers also warned the family against informing security agencies,” Akintayo stated.

Following the report, the NSCDC immediately activated its intelligence and operational units to track the whereabouts of the victim and identify those behind the alleged kidnapping.

According to him, operatives maintained strategic communication and intensified intelligence gathering while pursuing various investigative leads aimed at locating the teenager.

“During the operation, strategic communication and intelligence gathering were sustained while our officers explored available investigative leads,” he said.

The commandant noted that the coordinated efforts of the operatives eventually led to the successful rescue of the victim and the arrest of two suspects believed to be connected to the crime.

He added that the victim was rescued unharmed and reunited with her family, while investigations were ongoing to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether additional suspects were involved.

Akintayo reaffirmed the commitment of the NSCDC to protecting lives and property, urging residents to promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.

He also advised members of the public not to hesitate in providing useful information that could assist security agencies in preventing and combating criminal activities.

The command assured residents of Edo State that it would continue to deploy intelligence-led strategies and collaborative security measures to tackle kidnapping and other crimes across the state.
