NSCDC Arrests 21-Year-Old Over Alleged Kidnap, Murder of Employer in Kwara

The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 21-year-old suspect, Soliu Mujeeb, over the alleged kidnapping and murder of his employer, Olarewaju Afolabi.

The suspect was apprehended in connection with the alleged abduction, kidnapping and culpable homicide of the 60-year-old victim.

Speaking to journalists in Ilorin on Sunday, the Kwara State Commandant of the NSCDC, Abbas Nda-Muhammed, said the victim went missing on June 7, 2026, after leaving his residence to inspect an electrical wiring project.

According to the commandant, Afolabi failed to return home after departing for the assignment, prompting concern among family members and associates.

“ He did not return home after leaving for the assignment,” Nda-Muhammed stated.

The NSCDC boss explained that shortly after the victim disappeared, his family began receiving ransom demands through his mobile phone. The kidnappers allegedly demanded the sum of N2 million for his release.

However, the family was only able to raise N120,000, which was reportedly paid according to instructions provided by the caller.

“The family was only able to raise N120,000, which was paid as directed by the caller. The caller promised to release the victim after receiving the money,” Nda-Muhammed said.

The commandant disclosed that investigators eventually traced the suspect through intelligence gathering and financial analysis conducted on transactions linked to the victim’s Opay account.

He explained that the investigation led security operatives to Mujeeb, who was subsequently arrested and interrogated.

According to Nda-Muhammed, the suspect admitted during questioning that he worked with the deceased as a journeyman in electrical installation services.

Further interrogation allegedly revealed that there had been a dispute between the two men over missing work materials.

“The suspect confessed that there was a disagreement between him and the victim over missing material. He said the victim forced him to pay for it in installments,” the commandant said.

The NSCDC has not yet disclosed whether the victim’s body has been recovered or if additional suspects are being sought in connection with the case.

Authorities said investigations are ongoing and assured residents that all those involved in the crime would be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
