NSCDC Arrests 10 Students Over Banned ‘Signed Out’ Celebration in Adamawa

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 10 secondary school graduates in Adamawa State for allegedly participating in the banned final-year celebration known as "Signed Out." The suspects were apprehended by the command's Safe School Response Squad following reports of public disturbances linked to the celebration, which the state government prohibited over security concerns.

According to the NSCDC, the students were allegedly involved in acts that included public nuisance, assault, suspected theft, painting their bodies, tearing school uniforms and engaging in street fights. Preliminary investigations also revealed that one of those arrested was not a student, while some others were in SS1 and SS2, contrary to claims that they were graduating students.

Adamawa State Commandant Nasiru Saleh ordered a full investigation into the incident and warned that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law. He reiterated that the Corps would not tolerate activities capable of disrupting public peace or endangering the safety of students and residents.

The command also urged parents, school authorities and community leaders to educate students on responsible ways of celebrating the completion of their examinations. It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting schools and maintaining public order through closer collaboration with stakeholders under the Safe School initiative.
