NiMet Predicts Three Days of Cloudiness, Thunderstorms Nationwide
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast three days of cloudiness, thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across several parts of the country from Wednesday to Friday, advising Nigerians to take necessary precautions against severe weather conditions.
According to the agency's weather outlook, the northern region will experience patches of clouds in the morning, with thunderstorms and moderate rainfall expected in parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba and Adamawa. The thunderstorms are expected to spread to more northern states later in the day and continue throughout the forecast period.
For the North-Central region, NiMet predicted cloudy conditions with thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Kwara and Niger States. The agency said rainfall would become more widespread during the afternoon and evening hours over the three-day period.
In the southern region, cloudy skies are expected to dominate, with light to moderate rainfall forecast across parts of Ondo, Oyo, Lagos, Ekiti, Enugu, Imo and most states in the South-East and South-South. NiMet noted that rainfall activity is likely to intensify later each day.
The agency warned that strong winds could precede some thunderstorms and advised residents to avoid driving during heavy rainfall, disconnect electrical appliances from power sockets during storms and stay away from tall trees to reduce the risk of injuries from falling branches. It also urged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for safe flight planning.
