Nigerian Army Trains Bomb Disposal Experts to Counter IED Threat

The Nigerian Army has trained 52 non-commissioned officers in explosive ordnance disposal and improvised explosive device (IED) detection as part of efforts to strengthen its capacity to combat terrorism and emerging security threats across the country. The specialised training was designed to equip personnel with the skills needed to identify, neutralise and safely dispose of explosive devices increasingly used by insurgents and criminal groups.

The intensive programme brought together personnel from various Army formations and focused on modern bomb detection techniques, explosive disposal procedures and operational safety. Military authorities said the training would enhance the Army's ability to respond effectively to IED-related incidents while improving the protection of troops and civilians during operations.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Army officials stressed that improvised explosive devices remain one of the most significant threats confronting security forces, particularly in areas affected by insurgency and banditry. They noted that continuous training and capacity building are essential to staying ahead of evolving tactics employed by terrorist groups.

The Army urged the newly trained personnel to apply the knowledge gained with professionalism and discipline while carrying out their duties. It also reaffirmed its commitment to investing in specialised training programmes aimed at improving operational effectiveness and strengthening national security.

The latest exercise forms part of broader efforts by Nigeria's security agencies to enhance counter-IED capabilities through advanced training, improved coordination and intelligence-led operations as the country continues to tackle insurgency and other security challenges.
