Nigeria's newly appointed High Commissioner to India, Ambassador Saidu D. Muhammad, has officially assumed office, marking the beginning of a new phase in diplomatic relations between Nigeria and India. The envoy was received by officials at the Nigerian High Commission in New Delhi as he commenced his assignment to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Muhammad is expected to deepen collaboration in key areas, including trade, investment, education, healthcare, technology, energy and cultural exchange. Nigeria and India have maintained longstanding diplomatic and economic ties, with India remaining one of Nigeria's largest trading partners and a major investor in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, manufacturing and energy.

Upon assuming office, the new High Commissioner reaffirmed his commitment to promoting Nigeria's interests, improving consular services for Nigerians living in India, and fostering stronger economic and strategic partnerships. He also pledged to work closely with Indian authorities and the Nigerian community to advance mutually beneficial initiatives.

His appointment comes as both countries seek to expand cooperation in commerce, infrastructure development and technology, building on decades of diplomatic engagement within the Commonwealth and other international platforms.
