Nigeria’s Ambassador-Designate to Mali Receives Letters of Credence
Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to Mali, Dr. Geoffrey Chima, has received his Letters of Credence ahead of assuming diplomatic duties in the West African country.
Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Mali, Dr. Geoffrey Ijomah David Chima, has received his Letters of Credence ahead of assuming his diplomatic assignment in the West African nation.
The presentation marks a key step in the diplomatic process before the envoy proceeds to his country of posting to formally present his credentials to the Malian authorities.
The Letters of Credence were presented to Dr. Chima by the Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Babagana Wakil, on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The development was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement shared on its official social media platforms on Friday.
According to the ministry, the presentation signifies the Federal Government’s formal authorisation for the ambassador-designate to represent Nigeria in the Republic of Mali.
“The Ambassador-designate of Nigeria to Mali, Dr. Geoffrey Ijomah David Chima, has received his Letters of Credence.
“The Chief of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Babagana Wakil, presented the Letters of Credence to him on behalf of the Minister,” the ministry stated.
Letters of Credence are official diplomatic documents issued by a country’s Head of State authorising an ambassador to represent the nation in another sovereign state. The documents are formally presented by the ambassador to the receiving country’s Head of State before diplomatic duties officially commence.
As Nigeria’s representative in Mali, Dr. Chima is expected to promote bilateral relations between both countries, strengthen diplomatic engagement and advance Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives.
His responsibilities will also include fostering cooperation in areas such as trade, security, regional integration, education and cultural exchange, while protecting the interests of Nigerian citizens residing in Mali.
Nigeria and Mali maintain longstanding diplomatic relations as member states of the Economic Community of West African States, although recent political developments in Mali have presented new challenges for regional diplomacy and cooperation.
The appointment of a new ambassador is expected to further enhance communication and engagement between Abuja and Bamako while reinforcing existing ties between the two countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not disclose the exact date when Dr. Chima will depart Nigeria for his new assignment, but the presentation of the Letters of Credence signals that preparations for his official posting have reached an advanced stage.
