Nigeria Needs Urgent Intervention to Avert Disaster — Donald Duke

Former Cross River State Governor and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) presidential candidate, Donald Duke, has warned that Nigeria requires urgent intervention to reverse its current trajectory, saying the country risks a deeper crisis if decisive action is not taken within the next four years. He said worsening economic conditions, poor governance and insecurity have placed the nation on a dangerous path.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE Television, Duke said the country's deteriorating situation compelled him to return to active politics, stressing that he could no longer remain a spectator while Nigerians continue to grapple with hardship. According to him, the economy is struggling, governance has weakened and leadership failures have worsened insecurity across the country.

Duke argued that years of politics without effective governance have slowed economic growth and weakened public institutions. He cited recent governance failures, including the alleged fake government agency scandal, as evidence that stronger leadership and institutional reforms are urgently needed.

The former governor also called on opposition parties to put aside their differences and unite behind a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 general election. He maintained that a fragmented opposition would struggle to provide the leadership needed to change Nigeria's direction and address the country's mounting challenges.

Despite his concerns, Duke expressed optimism that Nigeria's challenges can be overcome through responsible leadership, sound economic policies and stronger institutions. He urged political leaders to prioritise national development over personal interests, insisting that timely intervention remains critical to securing the country's future.
