NGO Partners Ondo Government to Reduce Maternal Mortality
An NGO has partnered with the Ondo State Government to combat maternal mortality through improved healthcare services, medical training, and awareness programmes aimed at ensuring safer pregnancies and childbirth.
An international non-governmental organisation has partnered with the Ondo State Government in a renewed effort to tackle maternal mortality and improve healthcare outcomes for women across the state.
The collaboration is expected to focus on strengthening maternal and child health services, expanding access to quality healthcare, and enhancing awareness on safe pregnancy and childbirth practices. Stakeholders said the initiative aims to address factors contributing to preventable maternal deaths.
According to officials, the partnership will support healthcare facilities through training programmes for medical personnel, improved service delivery, and the provision of resources needed to care for expectant mothers and newborns.
The Ondo State Government reaffirmed its commitment to reducing maternal mortality rates, noting that investments in healthcare infrastructure and community-based interventions remain central to achieving better health outcomes.
Representatives of the NGO stressed the importance of collaboration between governments, development partners, and local communities in addressing maternal health challenges. They expressed confidence that the initiative would help improve access to life-saving services for women, particularly in underserved areas.
Health experts have long identified maternal mortality as a major public health concern in Nigeria, with calls for sustained investments in healthcare systems, skilled birth attendance, and emergency obstetric care.
The partnership is expected to complement ongoing efforts aimed at ensuring safer pregnancies and reducing the number of preventable deaths among mothers and infants in Ondo State.
