NEPC Workers Dismiss Strike Reports, Affirm Industrial Harmony

The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) and its workers' union have jointly dismissed reports claiming that employees are planning to embark on strike, describing the allegations as false and misleading. The Council said there is no industrial dispute within the organisation and assured exporters and stakeholders that its operations remain uninterrupted.

The clarification followed a joint meeting between the NEPC management and the leadership of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), NEPC Unit. In a statement issued by the Council's Head of Corporate Communications, Aliu Sadiq, management urged the public to disregard reports suggesting that workers were preparing for industrial action, insisting that the organisation continues to enjoy a peaceful working environment.

The Chairman of the ASCSN, NEPC Unit, Moruf Ogunlana, reaffirmed that the union neither authorised nor had prior knowledge of any planned strike. He stressed that the union remains committed to maintaining industrial harmony and has no disagreement with the management that would warrant a work stoppage. The union also dissociated itself from the reports circulating online.

The Council further denied allegations that directors had recently been appointed or that favouritism and nepotism existed within the organisation. According to the management, no new directors have been appointed, while staff promotions, career development and capacity building continue to follow due process. It added that more than 75 per cent of its workforce has benefited from professional training since 2023 under the leadership of Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Nonye Ayeni.

NEPC said the current management remains focused on expanding Nigeria's non-oil export sector, noting that the country recorded a $6.1 billion non-oil export value in 2025—the highest since the Council was established. Management and the union pledged to continue working together to advance the Federal Government's export promotion agenda while urging the public to ignore reports capable of creating unnecessary anxiety.
