NDC Disowns Primary Results, Summons NEC to Ratify Outcome
The Nigeria Democratic Congress has disowned circulating primary election results, insisting only its National Executive Council is authorised to announce outcomes and will ratify them at an upcoming meeting.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has distanced itself from various results of its recently concluded nationwide primaries circulating on social media, insisting that only its National Executive Council (NEC) is authorised to announce the official outcome.
The party warned the public to disregard unverified results being shared online, stressing that the authentic outcome of the primaries conducted on May 28 and 29, 2026, remains under the custody of the NEC.
The clarification was contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director.
He said the NEC had summoned an emergency meeting to review and ratify the results of the primaries and address other issues arising from the exercise.
“The general public is hereby urged to disregard the various results circulating on social media as the outcome of the nationwide primaries conducted by the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, on the 28th and 29th of May, 2026,” the statement read.
According to the party, only the NEC has the constitutional authority to announce and validate the final outcome of its primary elections.
Director added that the meeting was convened on the directive of the party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, to ensure proper resolution of internal party processes.
He disclosed that NEC members are expected to meet in Abuja for a pre-NEC session on Tuesday, June 2, followed by the main NEC meeting on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
The party further stated that the official list of candidates emerging from the primaries would be made public only after ratification and subsequent submission to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
It assured members and stakeholders that due process would be followed to resolve any disputes arising from the primaries before final nominations are concluded.
The development comes amid widespread speculation over the outcome of the party’s primaries, which were held nationwide to select candidates for various elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
