NANS Demands Immediate Rescue of Abducted Ogun Polytechnic Students

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the Federal Government, the Ogun State Government and security agencies to secure the immediate rescue of students abducted from a private hostel housing students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, Ogun State. The association described the incident as another disturbing indication of the growing insecurity around tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

In a statement signed by its National President, Akinteye Babatunde, NANS said it received news of the abduction with "deep sorrow and grave concern." The students were kidnapped after armed men attacked a private hostel along Paraga Road in the Ipara area on Wednesday night. The association urged authorities to intensify rescue efforts and strengthen security around campuses nationwide.

NANS noted that the latest incident came only days after another security breach at D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, where an HND II student, Ahmed Sekinat, was killed during a robbery attack and several others were injured. According to the student body, the two incidents have heightened fear among students across Ogun State and raised fresh concerns over the safety of educational institutions.

The association condemned the attack in strong terms, insisting that no student should have to risk their life in pursuit of education. It urged the government to improve intelligence gathering, deploy more security personnel around campuses and implement effective measures to prevent further attacks on students and educational facilities.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that tactical teams and intelligence operatives are conducting coordinated rescue operations and have launched a manhunt for the abductors. Authorities appealed to members of the public to remain calm while security agencies intensify efforts to secure the victims' safe release.
