NABTEB Begins Nationwide Technical College Placement Exercise

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has commenced the 2026 selection and placement exercise for qualified candidates seeking admission into technical colleges across Nigeria. The exercise, launched in Abuja, is aimed at ensuring successful candidates in the 2026 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) are fairly and transparently placed into federal and participating state technical colleges.

NABTEB Registrar and Chief Executive, Dr Mohammed Aminu, described the placement exercise as a crucial stage in the admission process, stressing that it would be guided by merit, equity, accountability, transparency and the Federal Character Principle. He urged members of the selection committee to carry out their responsibilities with integrity, noting that a credible placement process is essential to the success of the entrance examination.

According to NABTEB, 15,290 candidates registered for the entrance examination, while 13,848 eventually sat for the test. Of those, 10,426 candidates (75.29%) scored 50 per cent and above, while 5,708 candidates (41.22%) obtained 70 per cent or higher, making them eligible for consideration during the placement exercise.

Aminu also highlighted reforms introduced by the board, including computer-based testing (CBT), enhanced digital result processing and an AI-powered aptitude placement system designed to improve efficiency and transparency. He reaffirmed that technical colleges are centres of innovation and entrepreneurship and called on governments, parents and other stakeholders to encourage more young Nigerians to embrace technical and vocational education.
