Mutfwang Vows to Defend Plateau Interests, Outlines Three-Year Scorecard

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has vowed to continue advocating for the people of the state, insisting that his administration will not relent in defending their interests despite prevailing challenges.

Mutfwang made the remarks on Sunday during a thanksgiving service marking his third year in office, held at the COCIN Headquarters Church in Jos, which attracted former governors, traditional rulers, religious leaders, legislators and military figures, including former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Martin Agwai (retd).

Addressing concerns over whether the celebration should proceed in light of recent developments in the state, the governor said the decision was guided by the principle of gratitude and faith.

“There was a debate whether this thanksgiving should hold or not in spite of all that has been happening, but when we remembered the scripture that in all things, we should give Him thanks, we decided to go ahead,” he said.

Mutfwang recalled the political and security challenges that trailed his emergence as governor, noting that he nearly gave up during the primaries but was motivated by a desire to promote unity and good governance.

He said his administration faced sustained opposition even after assuming office, including security incidents in parts of the state and legal challenges up to the Supreme Court.

“From there, there were court cases that moved to the Supreme Court all in an attempt to stop me. But in all of these, God has been with us,” he said.

The governor stressed that unity remains central to his administration’s agenda, noting that he had initiated engagements with former governors and stakeholders to foster reconciliation.

He also warned against what he described as divisive tendencies among political actors and institutions, pledging continued advocacy for peace and cohesion.

“I won’t stop speaking for the people of Plateau State. We have said so many things concerning Plateau that are not in the media space. By the grace of God, we will continue to do that,” he said.

Mutfwang also presented a detailed scorecard under his administration’s three-pillar policy framework of peace and security, good governance, and economic development.

On governance, he said his administration had cleared inherited salary arrears, ensured regular salary payments, restored promotions, and improved electricity supply to government offices. He added that over ₦16 billion had been paid in pensions and gratuities, while about ₦60 billion remains outstanding.

In the health sector, he disclosed upgrades at the Plateau State Specialist Hospital, recruitment of medical personnel, expansion of health insurance coverage, and renovation of primary healthcare centres under development projects.

For education, he said tuition fees for indigenes in state-owned institutions had been reduced by 50 percent, scholarships increased significantly, and hundreds of classrooms built and renovated. He also noted that students are currently studying abroad under a state scholarship scheme.

On infrastructure, the governor said about 500km of roads have been completed, with more projects ongoing across all local government areas, alongside revived water supply schemes and treatment plants.

He appealed for continued public support to enable his administration to deliver more dividends of democracy.

Religious and traditional leaders at the event commended the administration’s emphasis on prayer, unity and development, while urging citizens to support government efforts and sustain peace in the state.
