MC Oluomo Tells Adeleke He Lacks Power to Suspend NURTW in Osun

The President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has rejected the decision of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to suspend the union's activities across the state. He argued that no state governor has the constitutional authority to suspend the operations of a registered national trade union, insisting that such powers rest with the appropriate federal authorities.

MC Oluomo's reaction followed Governor Adeleke's directive suspending all NURTW activities in motor parks across Osun after a prolonged factional crisis disrupted commercial activities and raised security concerns. The governor also ordered security agencies to halt the collection of levies in motor parks and arrest anyone parading as a union official in defiance of the directive.

Describing the governor's action as unconstitutional, MC Oluomo maintained that the NURTW remains a legally recognised national body whose operations cannot be suspended by a state government. He accused the Osun administration of overstepping its authority and vowed that the union would challenge the directive through lawful means while urging members to remain calm and law-abiding.

The dispute comes amid heightened political and security tensions in Osun's transport sector, where rival factions have clashed over the control of motor parks. The state government has defended its decision as a temporary security measure aimed at restoring peace and order, while security agencies have been directed to enforce the suspension until further notice.
