Makinde Pays Tribute to Late Father at 14th Memorial Service

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has paid tribute to his late father, Pa Olatunbosun Makinde, describing him as a trusted adviser whose honesty, wisdom and unwavering counsel continue to influence his life and leadership 14 years after his passing. Speaking at a memorial service held at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Aremo, Ibadan, the governor said he still deeply misses his father, whom he described as both a mentor and a close friend.

Makinde said the greatest void left by his father's death was the loss of someone who could always tell him the truth, regardless of the circumstances. He noted that Pa Olatunbosun Makinde's sincerity, integrity and guidance had played a significant role in shaping his personal values and approach to leadership.

In his sermon, the Bishop of Ibadan North Diocese, Most Rev. Williams Aladekugbe, described the late Pa Makinde as a devoted Christian who dedicated his life to serving God, the Church and his community. He urged Christians to emulate his exemplary life of faith, humility and selfless service. The bishop also commended Governor Makinde on the recent rescue of abducted teachers and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area, while praying for God's continued guidance over the state.

Earlier, the governor laid wreaths at the graves of his late father and his mother, Madam Abigail Makinde, in honour of their memory. The annual memorial service brought together family members, religious leaders, government officials and well-wishers to celebrate the enduring legacy of the late patriarch.
