Local Petrol Output Rises to 48 Million Litres Daily – FG
Nigeria’s local petrol production has risen to about 48 million litres per day, according to the Federal Government, which says the increase is driven by improved local refining and energy sector reforms aimed at boosting fuel supply and reducing imports.
The Federal Government has announced that Nigeria’s local petrol production has increased significantly, reaching about 48 million litres per day, in what officials describe as a major step toward strengthening domestic fuel supply and reducing reliance on imports.
The figure was disclosed in a statement highlighting recent improvements in refining output, driven largely by the gradual ramp-up of local refineries and enhanced supply chain efficiency within the downstream petroleum sector.
Authorities noted that the development reflects ongoing reforms aimed at stabilising fuel availability across the country. They explained that increased domestic production has helped reduce pressure on imports while improving product distribution to filling stations nationwide.
Officials also linked the improvement to recent policy measures designed to encourage local refining and support private sector investment in the energy sector. These include regulatory adjustments under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), which prioritises domestic supply when available.
Despite the rise in production, the government acknowledged that challenges such as infrastructure constraints and distribution bottlenecks still affect full market stability. However, it expressed optimism that continued investments and operational upgrades would further boost output in the coming months.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to achieving full energy security, stating that increased local production remains central to its strategy for stabilising fuel prices and strengthening the economy.
