Lagos Guber: APM Screens Aspirants, Clears Adeoye For Governor, 67 Others
The APM in Lagos says it has screened and cleared 68 aspirants, including governorship hopeful Laja Adeoye, ahead of 2027 elections under a consensus arrangement, with leaders describing the process as a step toward strengthening the party’s opposition role in Lagos.
The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Lagos State says it has concluded the screening of aspirants seeking elective positions on its platform ahead of the 2027 general elections, clearing all contestants under a consensus arrangement.
The Chairman of the APM Lagos State Screening Committee, Abiodun Abari, disclosed this on Saturday in Lagos after the exercise, noting that all aspirants were successfully screened and approved.
Abari said the committee screened the party’s only consensus governorship aspirant, Prince Laja Adeoye, alongside others contesting senatorial, House of Representatives, and Lagos State House of Assembly seats.
According to him, three senatorial aspirants, 24 House of Representatives aspirants, and 40 House of Assembly aspirants were screened and cleared by the committee.
“The screening went in accordance with the party guidelines seamlessly. We were able to screen and clear all the aspirants because the party was able to arrive at consensus for all the positions,” he said.
He added that the consensus process, though initially challenging, was achieved through unity among party leaders and members, with some aspirants stepping down in the interest of the party.
Abari also noted that the coalition arrangement between the APM and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had strengthened opposition politics in Lagos ahead of the 2027 elections, describing the alliance as a major political realignment in the state.
“Other aspirants decided to sacrifice their ambition for the greater good of the party and the state,” he said.
Speaking after his screening, Adeoye said he had met all requirements under the Electoral Act and guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), adding that he submitted his nomination forms and credentials.
“I successfully presented all required credentials and submitted my duly completed Governorship Nomination Form for Lagos State,” he said.
Adeoye described his ambition as part of efforts to “reset Lagos,” expressing confidence in the party’s readiness for the upcoming elections.
