Kogi Polytechnic Withdraws 229 Students in Major Crackdown on Poor Academic Performance
The Academic Board of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has approved the withdrawal of 229 students over poor academic performance following the release of the institution’s first semester results for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The decision was reached during the Academic Board meeting held on May 12, 2026, under the chairmanship of the Rector, Professor Salihu Sanusi Avidime. The meeting was attended by principal officers, deans, heads of departments, and other members of the Academic Board who deliberated on key academic issues affecting the institution.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Coordinator of Public Relations and Protocols, John Amos Onimisi, the approval of the results followed a thorough verification exercise conducted by the Academic Board Central Results Verification Committee.
The institution explained that the committee carefully scrutinized and authenticated submissions from various departments and schools to ensure fairness, accuracy, and compliance with the Polytechnic’s academic regulations before the final approval of the results.
Reports indicated that the affected students were drawn from several departments, including Accountancy, Business Administration, Computer Science, Public Administration, Science Laboratory Technology, Mass Communication, Library and Information Science, and Office Technology and Management.
The Polytechnic stated that the withdrawal of the students was aimed at preserving academic excellence and maintaining the integrity of certificates issued by the institution. The management added that the action was in line with existing academic regulations and intended to encourage discipline, seriousness, and improved academic commitment among students.
Professor Avidime reportedly commended members of the Results Verification Committee for their professionalism, diligence, and commitment to upholding educational standards within the institution.
The development has generated discussions among students and education stakeholders, with many describing it as a strong signal of the institution’s commitment to maintaining quality academic standards.
