How to Check and Accept Your Admission Offer on JAMB's CAPS Portal

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has continued to urge candidates to actively monitor and respond to their admission status through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), the official platform through which all tertiary admission offers in Nigeria are processed, tracked, and confirmed.

CAPS was introduced by JAMB to automate and streamline the country's admission process, ensuring transparency, eliminating multiple admissions, and empowering institutions to select qualified candidates based on merit and available quotas. It remains the only official platform where candidates can confirm admission offers, as many institutions no longer publish admission lists on their own websites or notice boards, making CAPS the definitive source for admission updates.

To check admission status, candidates are required to visit the JAMB e-Facility portal at efacility.jamb.gov.ng and log in using the email address and password registered with the Board. Once logged in, candidates should scroll to the "Check Admission Status" button on their dashboard, select the relevant examination year, and enter their 10-digit JAMB registration number where prompted. Clicking "Access My CAPS" redirects candidates to the main CAPS overview page, where selecting "Admission Status" from the navigation panel displays their current standing.

Candidates checking their status via mobile phone are advised to request the "Desktop Site" version within their browser settings, as several guides note that the mobile view often fails to display the full CAPS menu, a common source of confusion for candidates who assume their portal is malfunctioning when the missing options are, in fact, simply hidden in mobile view.

On the CAPS portal, candidates typically encounter several distinct status messages, each representing a different stage of the admission process. These include "Admission Offered," which indicates a candidate has received a formal offer; "Admission in Progress" or "Recommended," reflecting that an application is still being processed; and "Not Admitted" or "Pending," indicating that no offer has yet been made. Where an offer has been extended, the "Accept" and "Reject" buttons on the portal become active; where no offer exists, these buttons typically remain greyed out and unclickable.

Once an offer appears, candidates can respond in one of two ways: directly on the CAPS portal by clicking "Accept Admission" or "Reject Admission," or via SMS, by texting the word ACCEPT or REJECT to either 55019 or 66019 using the phone number registered on their JAMB profile. Candidates are cautioned that admission offers typically carry a validity window of roughly two to four weeks, and that failure to respond within this timeframe may result in the offer being withdrawn and reallocated to another candidate.

Importantly, the decision to accept or reject an admission offer is final and cannot be reversed once submitted. Candidates who reject an offer become available for consideration for other admission opportunities through JAMB's broader placement process, though this carries some risk, as there is no guarantee an alternative offer will follow. Once an offer is accepted, candidates must proceed to print their official JAMB Admission Letter, a document typically required during subsequent registration and clearance processes at their institution.

A recurring issue affecting many candidates involves the status of their O'Level results. No institution can process an admission, regardless of how strong the candidate's UTME score may be, until the candidate's WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB results are properly reflected on CAPS. Candidates whose results were linked automatically at the point of registration should see them already reflected on the platform; where this has not happened, candidates are required to visit an accredited JAMB office or CBT centre to have their results formally uploaded. Direct Entry candidates must similarly ensure that their A-Level, ND, NCE, or IJMB results are properly attached before institutions can screen their applications.

Candidates experiencing persistent difficulty accessing or navigating CAPS are generally advised to check their status every couple of days, confirm that their O'Level results have been successfully uploaded, and, where a status fails to change after several weeks, consider exploring JAMB's course-change options as an alternative path forward.

With admission cycles continuing to move through their various stages nationwide, JAMB has consistently stressed that responsibility for monitoring and responding to admission offers rests with individual candidates, underscoring the importance of regularly checking CAPS rather than assuming an admission offer will remain open indefinitely.
