Joshua Dedicates Comeback Victory to Friends Killed in Ogun Crash
Anthony Joshua dedicated his comeback victory over Kristian Prenga to his late friends Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, who died in an Ogun road crash. The emotional win marked Joshua's return to boxing and moved him closer to a blockbuster fight against Tyson Fury.
Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua dedicated his comeback victory over Kristian Prenga to his late friends and trainers, Sina Ghami and Latif "Latz" Ayodele, who died in a tragic road crash in Ogun State last December. Joshua, who survived the accident, returned to the ring with an emotional second-round knockout victory after recovering from two early knockdowns.
The Nigerian-British boxer entered the ring wearing camouflage gear bearing the names of his late friends as a tribute. Speaking after the fight, Joshua said the victory was driven by their memory, describing the performance as a reflection of their spirit and the strength they continued to inspire in him despite the pain of their loss.
Joshua admitted the tragedy had been difficult to cope with, saying the loss still hurts but that he was determined to keep moving forward. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, praised the boxer's resilience, noting that simply returning to the ring after such a personal tragedy was a remarkable achievement.
The victory keeps Joshua on course for a long-awaited heavyweight showdown with Tyson Fury, with Hearn confirming that contracts for the blockbuster fight have already been signed, although the date and venue are yet to be announced. Joshua said he respects Fury's achievements but is ready for the challenge ahead.
