Jonathan, Obi, Makinde Reportedly Secure Tickets Ahead Of 2027 Elections
A PDP factional convention in Abuja reportedly declared Goodluck Jonathan, Peter Obi, and Seyi Makinde as 2027 presidential “ticket winners,” though the party’s main leadership has rejected the outcome amid ongoing internal disputes.
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reportedly announced former President Goodluck Jonathan, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as winners of its presidential tickets ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development emerged from a disputed special national convention held in Abuja by a breakaway group within the PDP, despite ongoing leadership tensions and objections from the mainstream party structure.
During the gathering, the faction allegedly issued certificates of return to Jonathan, with representatives receiving the documents on his behalf amid a heavily contested and chaotic atmosphere.
Peter Obi was also declared as a presidential candidate by another coalition-aligned platform, while Seyi Makinde reportedly emerged as a candidate under a separate political arrangement, highlighting the fragmented nature of emerging opposition alignments.
The event was marked by reported disruptions, including protests and security interventions, as rival groups attempted to assert control over the convention venue.
Party leaders aligned with the faction insisted the exercise was legitimate, arguing that it reflected the will of their bloc and a broader push to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
However, the PDP’s main leadership has not recognised the outcome, deepening the ongoing internal crisis within the party as political realignments continue to shape early 2027 election dynamics.
