Atiku Challenges Tinubu To Account For ₦30trn FAAC, ₦34trn Waivers

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has demanded explanations from President Bola Tinubu over trillions of naira reportedly distributed through the Federation Account and granted as duty waivers.

Atiku questioned the administration’s handling of public revenue, particularly the allocation of about ₦30 trillion through the Federation Account Allocation Committee and the granting of approximately ₦34 trillion in duty waivers.

He challenged Tinubu to provide answers concerning how the funds were managed and the beneficiaries of the various financial concessions.

The former vice president raised the concerns in the build-up to the 2027 general elections, when the management of Nigeria’s resources is expected to become a major issue in political campaigns and public debate.

Atiku argued that Nigerians deserved greater transparency regarding the government’s revenue and expenditure decisions, particularly at a time when households and businesses continue to face significant economic pressures.

He questioned whether the reported financial figures had translated into tangible improvements in the living conditions of Nigerians, including better infrastructure, employment opportunities, social services and increased purchasing power.

The former vice president also criticised what he described as the lack of sufficient accountability surrounding the government’s economic policies and the use of public resources.

He said the administration would be expected to explain its decisions and provide clarity on how the enormous sums involved in revenue allocation and duty waivers were handled.

Atiku’s comments come as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with opposition figures increasingly scrutinising the Tinubu administration’s economic record.

The former vice president, who is seeking to challenge Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027, has consistently positioned economic hardship, public accountability and governance as major issues in his political campaign.

He maintained that Nigerians should demand answers from those entrusted with managing the country’s resources and should carefully assess the performance of the government before deciding who to support in the next election.

Atiku urged Tinubu to return prepared to account for the administration’s handling of public finances, stressing that the questions surrounding the reported figures could not simply be ignored.

The controversy over FAAC allocations and duty waivers is likely to remain part of the wider political debate as the 2027 election approaches, with opposition parties expected to intensify scrutiny of government revenue, spending and economic policies.
