‘It Was Shocking, I Felt Unsafe’ — Emeka Ike Threatens Legal Action over Data Leak
Emeka Ike threatens legal action after alleging his personal data was exposed at INEC. He describes the incident as disturbing and unsafe, calling it an abuse of power and demanding accountability.
Nollywood actor and politician Emeka Ike has expressed concern over the alleged exposure of his personal information at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), saying the incident left him feeling unsafe and vulnerable.
In an interview on News Central Television shared on X on Thursday, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) House of Representatives aspirant described the alleged disclosure of his data as an abuse of power and raised concerns about the security of citizens’ personal information in Nigeria.
Emeka Ike confirmed that he has begun legal action against Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over the matter.
He said the incident deeply unsettled him, describing it as a moment that made him question personal safety in the country.
“It was shocking. It was so disturbing that I felt unsafe. I felt insecure. For the first time, I’m feeling like, is anybody safe in this country anymore?” he said.
He further alleged that the situation reflected political recklessness and misuse of authority, arguing that it suggested an abuse of power by those in control of sensitive information.
According to him, his legal team has already written formal complaints to relevant authorities, including INEC, Lere Olayinka, his political party, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force, to ensure the matter is properly documented.
“I will go to court, and my lawyer has already written to Lere and INEC. He has also written my party, the DSS and the police so that it can be on record,” he said.
The actor maintained that the issue raises broader concerns about data protection and accountability within Nigeria’s electoral and security systems, insisting that citizens must be assured of the safety of their personal information.
He added that legal action was necessary to ensure transparency and prevent future occurrences of similar incidents involving political actors or institutions.
