LaLiga: Quinton Fortune Warns Flick Over Mourinho Ahead of New Season
Quinton Fortune warns Hansi Flick to avoid Mourinho’s mind games ahead of their renewed El Clásico rivalry.
Former Manchester United midfielder Quinton Fortune has warned Barcelona manager Hansi Flick about the challenge José Mourinho could pose when the Portuguese coach takes charge of Real Madrid for the 2026–27 season.
Mourinho was appointed Real Madrid manager this summer and is expected to renew the rivalry between the Spanish giants, with Fortune highlighting his reputation for psychological tactics and mind games.
Speaking to Tribal Football, Fortune advised Flick to remain focused and avoid being drawn into Mourinho’s attempts to unsettle his opponents.
“Hansi Flick is a calm character, and I think he already knows what’s coming now that José Mourinho is back at Real Madrid,” Fortune said.
“If he allows Mourinho to get into his head, then it’s done. It’s over. If Mourinho can find a way in, you’re finished.”
Fortune acknowledged Flick’s managerial ability but said Mourinho remains one of the best coaches when it comes to psychological warfare.
He also noted that Real Madrid possess enough quality within their squad to challenge Barcelona on the pitch, making the upcoming El Clásico encounters a major test for Flick.
“Mourinho will strive to divert attention away from his players while attempting to unsettle Barcelona, creating distractions and placing all the pressure on Flick and his team. This will be a significant test for them,” he added.
Flick has enjoyed considerable success since becoming Barcelona manager in 2024 and has established an impressive record against Real Madrid, winning six of seven El Clásico encounters across all competitions.
Barcelona have also won the LaLiga title in each of the past two seasons, while Mourinho will be tasked with restoring Real Madrid’s dominance in the rivalry.
The Portuguese manager, known for his tactical discipline and psychological approach, will now look to use Real Madrid’s squad quality to challenge Barcelona for domestic supremacy in the new season.
